southgaterfc.org is a community portal web site. What this means is that you, the members, are able to contribute and that I, Dobbo, just need to keep it on the straight and narrow .....
Thats the theory - the practice is however that you all like to look, but not many of you want to contribute. I'm happy to keep the web site upto date providing you send me content but its better if you all do it yourselves, so this is how you do it.
News - to add a news item select forums from the menu bar, select the news forum then start a new topic. Type in the details of what you want to say, set the News item check box and click save. If you are an administrator, the item will be published immediately, if you are not, I will need to approve it. (I look at the site most days so it doen't take long to go up.
General chat - you can create topics of conversation in the general chat forum. This works much the same way as the news forum (except you don't check the news item). This will then appear in the Topics list on the right hand side of the page. People can then add their comments as they feel fit.
Articles - Articles are designed to present a specific piece of info, I've used them for things like directions to the club and info about the White Hart. Articles can be rated but do not allow conversations to develop.
Pictures - self explainitory. You upload, we display. For ease of use can you please re-size any pictures to 800x600 before you upload them please. If you can't see a suitable category to load your pictures into, please let me know and I will create a new one.
Events - you can enter events through the calendar. Its straight forward enough and as for news items, new events need to be approved by me unless you are an administrator. If an event is important you will also need to create a news item to highlight it.
Some times, when entering an article, you may receive a security warning when posting articles and the post will be blocked. This has been tracked down to using round brackets and the @ symbol in the same body of text. You can get round this by using the { } backet symbols instead. If you get this error, just use the back arrow on the browser and change the brackets. The post will then work OK. For the technical amoungst you this check was put in place to prevent an SQL injection security hole. Not very elegant but it keeps the web site secure.
If you want to use any of the other fetures, such as the online chat room, please do. Just have a play and see what happens.....
