Northolt 17: Southgate 29

A squad of 19 turned up for a game against old friends Northolt. As usual we were greeted by a large pack. Southgate had some new players so it was always going to be difficult up front. Surprisingly Northolt commenced with a kicking game to the delight of the Southgate backs. An early kick sees Southgate secure lineout ball to drive it forward, once released to the backs Kieran broke through to score. The kick off was secured and fed down the backs to Tom who was tackled into touch short of the try line. Southgate won the lineout and Taff broke though to score.

The game then moved to a forward struggle Northolt now coming back into the game and from close range break blind to score. It is some time before Southgate finally won some quick ruck ball and Ed broke from the base of the ruck to score. Northolt came back through their forwards but turned the ball over in the Southgate 22. Taff broke down the line and when finally caught off loaded to Tom to score. The second half is much closer with Northolt using their forwards and Southgate having less ball for their backs to exploit. From another Northolt kick Taff chips ahead gathers the ball and and passes to Ben to score. Northolt come back through their forwards and a sustained pick and drive game sees the inevitable pressure lead to a pair of tries towards the end of the match.
