Harpenden RFC vs Southgate RFC
Harpenden 31: Southgate 18
Southgate went to Harpenden with 19 players and with confidence after their last match. Unfortunately that looked misplaced as the Harpenden pack looked dominant in the early scrums and this pressure led to two early tries for the home team to lead 12.0 after 15 minutes. A front row substitution then allowed Southgate back into the game and some sustained pressure from Southgate and the winning of a scrum then saw Kier to power over the line to make it 12:5 at half time.
The second half started as the first with Harpenden pressure and dominance in the scrum. The pressure kept leading to Southgate turning over ball in promising positions. Southgate managed to kick a penalty to bring the score to 12:8, but Harpenden hit back with a pushover try to bring the score to 17:8. More good running from the backs saw them get close before Kier again powered over from a ruck close to the line. A bullocking run from Ollie through their wing and full back then saw him score and Southgate take a surprising lead 18:17 with fifteen minutes left. Stung into action Harpenden again hit back with backs and forwards supporting each other and offloading in the tackle to drive up field.
From a scrum they were able to drive over again to take the lead 24:18. With a few minutes left and Southgate trying to get up field a mistake turns over the ball, Harpenden chip over the top win the race for the ball to score and make the final result 31:18.
